Turista não gosta de aves engaioladas

To whom it may concern,

I am a British tourist and have very much appreciated the beauties of your island. However,one thing shocked me and several members of our group also. On one of our stops, we were horrified to see a bird in a cage desperately trying to escape. On our asking what kind of bird it was, we were told it was a native canary and that they are probably a protected species as their numbers have greatly declined over the past years. We were very tempted to open the door of the cage, but refrained from doing so not to cause any trouble. I most sincerely hope that something can be done to avoid such situations in future as we left the island with a bad impression of the way these birds are treated.
